Dhaka, Aug 27 (V7N): The ongoing floods in Feni have resulted in the deaths of over 64,000 cattle and 2.3 million poultry, according to the District Livestock Department. The total estimated loss in the livestock sector stands at Tk391.11 crore, as reported by District Livestock Officer Md Mozammel Haque.

Feni Sadar upazila Livestock Officer Md Shahidul Islam Khokon reported, "The livestock sector in Feni has suffered immense losses that will take a considerable time to recover from. The local population will be deprived of essential products such as meat, milk, and eggs."

Khokon further noted an acute shortage of cow-fodder, leading to additional deaths among animals due to inadequate food supplies. He added that discussions with officers have confirmed the extent of the damage, which might increase further.

The Feni District Livestock Department's report reveals that 38,731 cows, 129 buffaloes, 15,604 goats, and 356 sheep have perished across 35 flood-affected unions in six upazilas. Additionally, 1,731,810 chickens and 196,472 ducks have also died, totaling Tk302.67 crore in losses from dead animals.

The report also highlights that 1,992 cattle farms have incurred losses of Tk13.17 crore, while 1,623 poultry farms have suffered Tk10.97 crore in damages. Furthermore, 3,950 tonnes of animal feed worth Tk23.25 crore were destroyed, along with 2,550 tonnes of hay, 184,210 tonnes of grass, and 285 acres of pasture land affected by the floods.
