Dhaka, Aug 31 (V7N): The death toll from the recent floods across 11 districts has risen to 59, with five additional fatalities reported today, according to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

Among the latest casualties, four were from Feni and one from Noakhali. The floods have caused 14 deaths in Cumilla, six in Chattogram, 23 in Feni, nine in Noakhali, three in Cox's Bazar, and one each in Brahmanbaria, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar, and Lakshmipur.

Of the deceased, 41 were male, six were female, and 12 were children.

The floods have affected 6,96,995 families across 68 upazilas in the 11 impacted districts, including Feni, Cumilla, Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Noakhali, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Sylhet, Lakshmipur, and Cox's Bazar. Overall, 54,57,702 individuals have been impacted across 504 municipalities or unions in these districts.

The situation is reportedly stable in Chattogram, Habiganj, Sylhet, Cox's Bazar, and Khagrachhari, and improving in Moulvibazar, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Feni, Noakhali, and Lakshmipur.

Currently, 3,93,305 people are sheltered in 3,928 relief centers, with 36,139 domestic animals also accommodated. A total of 519 medical teams are operating in the affected areas to provide necessary healthcare services.

The government has allocated Tk4.52 crore for relief efforts in the flood-stricken districts, along with 20,650 tonnes of rice, 15,000 pieces of dry and baby foods, and fodder valued at Tk35 lakh each.

As conditions improve, some evacuees have begun returning home. Road communications are gradually being restored, and authorities are working to manage potential outbreaks of water-borne diseases as floodwaters recede.
