Dhaka, Sept 02 (V7N): Gono Odhikar Parishad, led by former Ducsu Vice President Nurul Haque Nur, has officially been registered as a political party by the Election Commission (EC) on Monday.

The party had initially applied for registration ahead of the 12th general election. However, the EC did not grant the registration at that time, which led to widespread criticism.

According to a notification signed by Election Commission Secretary Shafiul Azim, Gono Odhikar Parishad (GOP) is now registered as a political party under the provisions of the Representation of the People Order. The registration will remain in effect until further notice.

The party has been assigned the truck as its election symbol, and its registration number is 51.
