Feni, July 10 (V7N) — Residents of Feni’s Fulgazi and Parshuram upazilas are once again grappling with severe flooding, as broken embankments continue to allow river water to inundate their homes and farmlands. The flood situation, already dire, worsened further on Thursday as water from the Muhuri, Kahua, and Silonia rivers breached embankments at multiple points.

Despite water levels in the Muhuri River remaining below the danger mark and receding levels in the Kahua and Silonia rivers, the breaches have allowed floodwaters to pour into low-lying areas. At least 21 breached embankments have been reported, according to local sources.

So far, 67 villages in Fulgazi, 27 in Parshuram, and 4 in Chagalnaiya have been submerged. Several homes and shops are underwater, and road communication remains suspended on the Feni–Parshuram highway. Water has also entered Bangladesh from across the border following a dam collapse at Ballamukha.

Speaking to Jamuna TV, many flood-affected residents expressed frustration and despair, saying they no longer wish to rely solely on temporary relief efforts. They called for the proper implementation of a Tk 7,340 crore government project aimed at long-term flood prevention, demanding a sustainable and permanent solution.

Feni Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam confirmed that 161 shelters have been opened across the affected areas. “We are distributing dry food to every shelter, and many people have already been evacuated to safety,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Water Development Board has warned that river water continues to flow over embankments in some areas, increasing the risk of further damage and displacement.
