Dhaka, Sep 8 (V7N): Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has firmly stated that Bangladesh will not accept any more Rohingya refugees fleeing violence in Myanmar.

“We have made it clear that we will not shelter even one more Rohingya," the adviser emphasized on Sunday, addressing the situation where over 12,000 Rohingyas have already entered the country, with another 50,000 waiting at the border.

Acknowledging the ongoing influx, he remarked, "Despite our efforts, some are still crossing the border. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is working to send them back daily, but it's a vast area, and our capacity to catch all of them is limited. However, we are returning as many as we can."

The adviser also commented on the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)'s request for Bangladesh to accommodate the new refugees. "We have already taken in 1.2 million Rohingyas. We’ve done more than our part. Those offering advice should consider taking them in themselves."

He further mentioned a meeting held with the BGB chief, adding that more in-depth discussions on the matter will follow.
