Dhaka, Sep 19 (V7N)– The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) has appointed two new independent directors to the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) after the previously appointed individuals expressed their inability to assume the roles. This information was shared by BSEC in a notification issued on Thursday.
At the 921st commission meeting, chaired by BSEC Chairman Khandkar Rashid Maqsood, AF Nesaruddin, Senior Partner of Huda Vasi Chowdhury & Company, and Syeda Zakerin Bat Nasir, Chief Consultant and CEO of ZN Consultant, were initially appointed as independent directors. However, both individuals declined to take responsibility.
In response, the 922nd commission meeting, also chaired by Khandkar Rashid Maqsood, appointed Mominul Islam, former Managing Director and CEO of IPDC Finance Limited, and Shahnaz Sultana, CEO and Chief Consultant of Fins Alliance and Risk Advisory and Consultancy, as new independent directors to the DSE board.
This change comes after seven independent directors were appointed to the DSE board in the 918th (emergency) commission meeting held on September 1, 2024, in accordance with Section 24 of the Exchanges Demutualization Act, 2013. The newly appointed directors will now be responsible for contributing to the governance and management of DSE, the country’s main capital market.
BSEC has ensured that the appointments were made promptly to ensure the smooth functioning of the DSE board after the previous appointees expressed their inability to serve.
