Gazipur, Feb 01 (V7N) — A devastating fire broke out at Konabari Hawkers' Market in Gazipur, gutting nine clothing shops late Friday night. However, no casualties were reported.

The fire started around midnight on January 31, first engulfing a clothing shop before spreading to adjacent stores. The affected shop owners—Abbas, Sentu Mia, Said, Rubel Mia, Baser Mia, and Nurul Islam—claimed losses amounting to around Tk 5 million. Among them, Abbas, Sentu Mia, and Said each lost two shops, while Rubel Mia, Baser Mia, and Nurul Islam lost one shop each.

According to locals, shop owners initially attempted to control the blaze before two fire service units arrived and extinguished the flames after about half an hour.

Md. Saiful Islam, Inspector of Konabari Modern Fire Service Warehouse, stated that while no casualties occurred, preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit. An official assessment of the total damage is yet to be completed.
