Dhaka, Apr 07 (V7N) – Former International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) prosecutor Barrister Turin Afroz has been arrested in Dhaka on charges of attempted murder.
According to police sources, Turin was detained from a residence on Road No. 11, Sector 3 of Uttara around 11 PM on Monday (April 7). She was subsequently taken to the Uttara West Police Station for further legal procedures.
Md. Mohidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Uttara Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the arrest. He stated that a case had been filed against Turin at Uttara West Police Station for allegedly firing with the intent to kill a student involved in the recent anti-discrimination student movement.
Speaking to the media, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, said, “The arrest was made based on a case currently under investigation. Turin Afroz was taken into custody following a raid at her Uttara residence on Monday night.”
The incident has sparked significant public interest due to Turin Afroz’s prominent role as a former prosecutor in war crimes trials under the ICT. Further developments regarding the case are awaited as investigations continue.
