Dhaka, May 18 (V7N) – Students from Dhaka University’s Institute of Education and Research (IER) along with Chhatra Dal supporters held a protest in front of Shahbagh Police Station on Sunday (May 18), demanding the immediate arrest and trial of those responsible for the murder of Shahriar Alam Samya.

The demonstration began around 12:30 pm after protesters gathered at the foot of the Raju Statue earlier in the morning and marched toward the police station. University teachers also joined in expressing solidarity with the movement.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan emphasized that justice for Samya’s murder must be served above political considerations.

On the night of Tuesday, May 13, Shahriar Alam Samya, a Literature and Publications Secretary of Chhatra Dal at Sir A.F. Rahman Hall and a student of the 2018-19 batch at IER, was fatally stabbed near Mukta Mancha in Suhrawardy Udyan by an unidentified assailant.
