Dhaka, Jun 06 (V7N) – The Dhaka North and South City Corporations have announced an ambitious waste management operation to clean up all sacrificial animal waste within 12 hours on the day of Eid-ul-Azha, set to be celebrated on Saturday, June 7.

To implement this plan, a total of 20,267 cleaning workers have been deployed. Their Eid holidays have been cancelled to ensure uninterrupted service. The waste removal operations will officially begin at 3 PM on the day of Eid.

The two city corporations have also distributed around 1.39 million plastic, polybags, and biodegradable bags across neighborhoods to assist residents in proper waste disposal. These bags are intended to facilitate quicker and cleaner collection of animal remains.

According to officials, both city administrators will ceremonially launch the cleanup drive at 3 PM. The authorities have also set up dedicated hotline services to help citizens report waste issues or seek information during and after the sacrifice period.

Estimates suggest that approximately 700,000 animals may be sacrificed in Dhaka this year, potentially generating over 50,000 tons of waste in just one day.

City officials are urging the public to cooperate by disposing of waste at designated spots and using the provided bags. The combined efforts of the city corporations and residents are expected to ensure a cleaner and safer environment during the religious festival.
