Dhaka, Oct 12 (V7N) – Teachers under the MPO scheme have launched a protest by blocking the road in front of the National Press Club, demanding a 20 percent increase in house rent and several other allowances. Educators from across the country gathered in the capital on Sunday morning (October 12) to join the demonstration.
The protesters rejected the government’s recent circular that approved only a Tk 500 increase in house rent for MPO-affiliated teachers and staff of private educational institutions.
“We reject this Tk 500 increase,” the teachers declared. “Taking our demands into consideration, the house rent and medical allowance must be increased by at least 20 percent this time.”
The agitating teachers further announced that they would continue their sit-in program indefinitely until their demands are fulfilled. They also warned of a class boycott nationwide if the government fails to respond.
