Dhaka, Nov 8 (V7N) — Government primary school teachers have announced a nationwide strike from Sunday (November 9) to press home their three-point demand, including upgrading their salary to the 10th grade.
The announcement came after teachers gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital on Saturday afternoon (November 8), following a day of tension and clashes with police in Shahbagh.
Earlier, police fired sound grenades and water cannons to disperse teachers when they attempted to break a barricade in Shahbagh. Several teachers and journalists were injured during the incident.
After regrouping at the Central Shaheed Minar, the teachers announced the nationwide strike, demanding that police personnel involved in the attack be identified and brought to justice.
They also vowed to continue their movement until all demands are met, warning that primary education across the country will come to a halt if the government fails to respond.
