Dhaka, Mar 14 (V7N) — Police from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested eight people allegedly involved in drug trafficking during a special operation at Geneva Camp.

The drive was carried out by the Tejgaon Division Police at different points inside the camp based on secret information, during which various drugs were recovered, police said.

Confirming the matter, Jewel Rana, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the Mohammadpur Zone, said on Saturday (March 14) that the detainees were initially interrogated and later charged under the Narcotics Control Act.

Police officials said the special operation was launched as drug-related activities tend to increase ahead of Eid. They added that such drives will continue regularly in crime-prone areas of the capital.

ADC Jewel Rana also noted that the operation was conducted with round-the-clock cooperation from the government and the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, adding that law and order during Ramadan this year has remained better compared to the previous year.
