Dhaka, Oct 24 (V7N) – The severe cyclone 'Dana' over the East Central Bay of Bengal and adjacent West Central Bay has moved further north-northwestwards, bringing it closer to the coastal regions of Bangladesh. As of 6 AM today, the cyclone is located 475 km south-southwest of Payra seaport, 485 km from Mongla seaport, 595 km from Chittagong, and 555 km from Cox's Bazar.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department issued this update in Special Weather Bulletin No. 9 at 7 AM on Thursday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds that may affect the North Bay of Bengal and the coastal regions of Bangladesh, as well as nearby islands.

The cyclone, currently positioned over the West Central Bay of Bengal and moving towards the northwest, is producing sustained wind speeds of 90 km/h within 64 km of its center. In gusts, wind speeds are reaching up to 110 km/h. Due to the severe weather conditions near the cyclone’s center, the sea is very rough.

In light of these developments, the Met Office has issued Local Warning Signal No. 3 for the sea ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra. Additionally, all fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay of Bengal and the deep sea have been instructed to remain in safe harbor until further notice.

The authorities continue to monitor the cyclone's movements closely and advise residents in the coastal areas to remain vigilant as the storm advances.
