Dhaka, Dec 21 (V7N) –Drizzling rain has been affecting life in Bagerhat as a low-pressure system formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal, with showers beginning late Friday night and continuing into Saturday morning.

Daily workers, rickshaw pullers, and van drivers are struggling to make a living under these conditions, while small traders face decreased customer turnout due to the rain.

Rickshaw driver Malek Islam shared his plight: "It has been raining since morning. I am driving a wet rickshaw, but there are fewer passengers. I have not even made half of what I usually earn."

Similarly, van driver Majid Mia expressed his challenges: "Working in this rain is very difficult. My hands and feet are freezing in the cold, but if I don’t work, my family won’t have anything to eat. I’m forced to be out here."

Local farmers are also concerned about the rain’s impact on drying harvested rice.

Abdul Ghafoor, a farmer, said: “This is rice-drying season. If the paddy gets wet now, there’s a high risk of spoilage. A few days without sunshine could cause major losses.”

Meteorologist in-charge at the Mongla Meteorological Office Dr Harunor Rashid, reported that 1.2 millimetres of rain had fallen in Bagerhat between early Saturday morning and noon. The minimum recorded temperature during this period was 15.8°C.
