Rangamati, Dec 25, (V7N) – Two tourists, Shaon Dutta (16) from Chittagong and Priyonto Das, have gone missing while swimming in the Karnaphuli River near the Shri Shri Mata Sita Devi Mandir at Sitar Ghat, in the Chitmorn Union of Kaptai Upazila.
According to the temple’s head priest, Swami Jyotirmoyanand Puri Maharaj, and local UP member, Mohammad Sarwar, the incident occurred around 1:30 PM on Tuesday, December 24. Shaon Dutta, a ninth-grade student of Railway Public School, was visiting the area with his classmates. Priyonto, his cousin, also went missing alongside him.
The group of nine friends had traveled to Kaptai from Chandraghona Mission Ghat in Rangunia by boat. Upon reaching Sitar Ghat, four members of the group went for a swim in the river. While two of them managed to come out of the water, Shaon and Priyonto got swept away by the current and went missing.
As of 4:30 PM on the same day, the two missing boys have not been found. Fire Service personnel and local police have been dispatched to the scene to assist in the search and rescue operation.
