Dhaka, Apr 02 (V7N) - Dhaka, the overcrowded capital of Bangladesh, ranked 14th among cities with the worst air quality this morning (April 2, 2025), recording an AQI score of 118 at 9:35 AM. The Air Quality Index (AQI) categorized Dhaka’s air as ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’, posing health risks to vulnerable residents.

India’s Delhi (398), Nepal’s Kathmandu (238), and Iraq’s Baghdad (192) ranked as the top three most polluted cities. The AQI measures particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and ozone levels to assess air pollution levels.

Despite reduced traffic and fewer people due to recent holidays, Dhaka’s air quality remains poor, following a longstanding pattern of worsening in winter and improving during the monsoon. The World Health Organization (WHO) warns that air pollution contributes to seven million deaths annually, increasing risks of stroke, heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory infections.

Experts emphasize the urgent need for stricter pollution control measures in urban planning, industrial emissions, and vehicle regulations to combat Dhaka’s chronic air pollution crisis.
