Dhaka, June 13 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today forecast that a mild heatwave currently sweeping over the north and north-eastern regions, as well as several other parts of the country, is expected to continue for the next 24 hours.
According to a forecast issued at 9 am, the mild heatwave is affecting Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Sylhet divisions, along with the districts of Tangail, Faridpur, Brahmanbaria, Khulna, Jashore, and Chuadanga.
The BMD noted that a trough of low pressure is situated over West Bengal, extending to the Northwest Bay across the southwestern part of Bangladesh. Monsoon activity over Bangladesh remains less active, with weak to moderate conditions over the North Bay.
Despite the ongoing heatwave, light to moderate rain or thunder showers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, are likely to occur at a few places in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Isolated rainfall is also expected in one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions, with the possibility of moderately heavy falls in some areas across the country.
Day and night temperatures are predicted to remain largely unchanged across Bangladesh.
On Thursday, the country's maximum temperature was recorded at 37.3 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi. The minimum temperature recorded today was 23.8 degrees Celsius in Bandarban. Over the past twenty-four hours until 6 am today, the highest rainfall was recorded at 96 millimeters in Koyra. The sun is set to cast its last rays at 6:47 pm today, with tomorrow's sunrise expected at 5:11 am.
