Sweida, July 14 (V7N) – Fierce clashes between local armed groups and ethnic minorities in the Druze-majority city of Sweida in southern Syria have resulted in significant casualties. Reports indicate at least 30 people have been killed and hundreds injured amid ongoing violence, according to Reuters.
On Monday, Syrian authorities stated their forces would intervene to regain control and restore order in the region.
However, French news outlet France 24 reported a higher death toll, citing 37 fatalities in the clashes involving local armed groups and Bedouin tribes.
The conflict, which erupted earlier this year in April and May, has escalated between the Druze community and Bedouin groups, with tensions spiraling beyond control. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed that among the dead, 27 were Druze and 10 were Bedouins.
A government source declined to provide further comments to the media but confirmed that additional security forces are being deployed to resolve the unrest. The situation remains tense as efforts continue to quell the violence in the region.
