Dhaka, Oct 28 (V7N)- The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has suspended the bail of Sohail Rana, the principal accused in the tragic Rana Plaza collapse case. The incident, which occurred in Savar near Dhaka on April 24, 2013, led to the deaths of 1,175 garment workers and left over 2,000 injured, marking one of the deadliest industrial accidents globally and the most severe in Bangladesh’s history.

A three-member bench, led by Senior Judge Ashfaqul Islam, issued the suspension order and directed the High Court to provide a ruling on the bail within two months. Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir represented Sohail Rana, while Additional Attorney General Arshadur Rauf appeared for the state.

Previously, on October 2, the Chamber Court had suspended the bail granted by the High Court to Sohail Rana in the murder case related to the collapse, subsequently referring it to the Appellate Division for further review.

Following the disaster, RAJUK (Capital Development Authority) filed a case against Rana Plaza's owner, Sohail Rana, and the owners of the garment factories housed within the building. Several government-initiated investigation committees were tasked with examining the cause of the collapse and were instructed to submit their findings within seven days.
