Dhaka, Nov 19 (V7N)— The High Court of Bangladesh has raised questions about the electricity agreement with India's Adani Group, directing a review of the controversial deal. A ruling was issued on Tuesday by a bench led by Justice Farah Mahbub, asking for all relevant documents related to the agreement to be submitted within one month.

The court also instructed the formation of an expert committee within the same timeframe, with a report to be submitted within two months. This decision comes in response to a public interest writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Barrister M Abdul Qayyum, challenging the validity of the power deal signed between the Bangladesh government and Adani Limited on November 5, 2017.

Barrister Qayyum argued that the agreement, which concerns the import of electricity, raises issues regarding transparency and national interest. The petition called for a review or cancellation of the contract.

The High Court's directive reflects growing concerns over the terms and implications of the agreement, which has faced criticism for potentially imposing an economic burden on Bangladesh.

The case highlights increasing scrutiny of foreign energy agreements and their impact on the country's development priorities. The ruling is expected to ignite further discussions on energy policy and governance in Bangladesh.
