Dhaka, Jul 02 (V7N) — The Supreme Court has removed the final legal barrier to the appointment of head teachers in approximately 32,000 government primary schools across Bangladesh.

The Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Zubair Rahman, delivered the verdict on Thursday in a case concerning the recruitment of primary school head teachers.

The appointment process had remained stalled due to ongoing litigation and a court-imposed stay order. With the latest ruling, there are no longer any legal obstacles preventing the authorities from proceeding with the recruitment.

The Appellate Division had concluded hearings on the civil appeal on June 18, before delivering its judgment on Thursday.

Earlier, Education Minister Dr. A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milon said the government had initiated the process to appoint around 32,500 head teachers to address the acute shortage of leadership in government primary schools. However, implementation was delayed because of the court's stay order.

Following the Supreme Court's ruling, the government is now expected to move forward with the long-awaited recruitment process to fill the vacant head teacher positions nationwide.
