Dhaka, Sep 11 (V7N) – The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has issued a directive instructing judges of lower courts across the country to refrain from posting or sharing content on social media that contradicts professional discipline. The directive was issued through a circular signed by Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmed Bhuya on Wednesday.

The circular highlighted recent concerns regarding the misuse of social media by some judicial officers. It noted that some officials have been using social platforms during court hours and making adverse comments about their appointing and controlling authorities, which is considered a violation of service discipline and misconduct.

The Chief Justice of Bangladesh has reiterated the importance of adhering to existing rules regarding the use of social media by judicial officers, emphasizing that all online activity must align with the country’s laws and regulations. The circular urged judges not to share any unnecessary posts, statuses, or comments that may undermine professional conduct.

The notice further warned that any breach of these directives would be considered misconduct, subject to disciplinary action under the Bangladesh Judicial Service (Discipline) Rules, 2017, as well as other applicable laws.

The move aims to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the judiciary, ensuring that judicial officers adhere to the expected standards of conduct both in and outside of the courtroom.
