Sirajganj, Jan 10, (V7N) -A young man named Hasan Ali (25) was arrested by locals in Kamarkhand, Sirajganj, after he attempted to purchase alcohol and cigarettes using fake currency notes. He was later handed over to the police.

Kamarkhand Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed the incident on Friday morning (January 10). The event occurred around 8 PM on Thursday in the Raidaulatpur Bazar area of the upazila.

The arrested individual, Hasan Ali, is the son of Chand Ali Sheikh from Rasulpur Kalatla village in Kamarkhand upazila.

According to police and local sources, Hasan Ali handed over a 1,000 taka note while purchasing alcohol and cigarettes. The shopkeeper later realized the note was counterfeit. When asked for another note, Hasan provided a second one, which also turned out to be fake.

Becoming suspicious, locals detained Hasan and immediately informed the police. Officers from Kamarkhand Police Station arrived at the scene and took him into custody.

OC Mokhlesur Rahman stated,
"The youth was caught by locals while trying to buy cigarettes and paan with fake currency. We recovered five counterfeit 1,000 taka notes from him. After completing the legal process, he will be sent to jail through the court this afternoon."

The police are investigating whether Hasan Ali is linked to a larger counterfeit currency network.
