Dhaka, Apr 21 (V7N)- Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the murder of Zahidul Islam Parvez, a student of PrimeAsia University, following a targeted raid in Dhaka’s Mohakhali Wireless Gate area late Sunday night.
The arrests were confirmed by Officer-in-Charge Russell Sarwar of Banani Police Station, who said the detainees are:
-
Md. Al Kamal Sheikh alias Kamal (19)
-
Alvi Hossain Junaid (19)
-
Al Amin Sunny (19)
According to police, the trio was arrested based on secret intelligence, and evidence of their direct involvement has emerged from CCTV footage and mobile communications. “Their presence was identified at the crime scene, and they were in contact with other accused individuals during the incident,” said OC Russell Sarwar.
The incident occurred on Saturday (April 19) around 4:30 PM, following an altercation between Zahidul and three other students over allegations of harassment involving two female students of the University of Scholars.
Although the university administration attempted to mediate between the two parties, the situation escalated after they left the campus. Zahidul, a student of the 223rd batch of Textile Engineering, was attacked and fatally stabbed by a group of youths. He was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Zahidul’s brother Humayun Kabir filed a case at Banani Police Station on Sunday morning, naming eight individuals, including PrimeAsia students and external individuals.
Police added that the arrested suspects have knowledge of the remaining absconding accused and are assisting in locating them. Further interrogations are underway.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the academic community, with students demanding swift justice and increased campus security.
