Ukhiya, July 18 (V7N) – Police in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, have arrested two suspected robbers in possession of firearms, ammunition, and sharp weapons during a late-night special operation in the Kutupalong area. The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Ayas (21) and Kofil Uddin (28). Both suspects have been sent to Cox’s Bazar District Jail, confirmed Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Arif Hossain.
The arrests took place during the early hours on Friday night near the MSF Hospital, south of the bridge on the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf Highway in Kutupalong. Acting on a confidential tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid on the area where a gang of 10–12 robbers had reportedly gathered. Upon sensing police presence, most of the suspects fled the scene. However, two were successfully apprehended during the chase.
Police recovered the following items from the suspects:
One locally made one-shooter firearm, One live cartridge, Two knives, Two large cleavers (locally known as 'dama'), One stainless steel pipe and One motorcycle.
OC Arif Hossain confirmed the arrests and the seizure of the weapons. He stated that a case has been filed against the detainees and further legal proceedings are underway. He also emphasized that the police will continue similar operations to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the region.
The operation highlights ongoing efforts by the Bangladesh Police to curb criminal activities and dismantle armed gangs in the refugee-prone and security-sensitive areas of Ukhiya and its surroundings.
