Natore, Sep 07 (V7N) - In 2015, a legal case has been filed against Shafiqul Islam Shimul, a former MP for Natore-2, and 45 other individuals. The charges allege that they abducted Zahurul Islam, a Saudi expatriate from his home in Bamnagar, Naldanga upazila, and forcibly tied him to a tree, demanding Tk 5 lakh in ransom. To escape, Zahurul Islam paid Tk 1 lakh, leaving the remaining Tk 4 lakh unpaid. Due to his failure to pay the full amount, Zahurul's father was subsequently beaten and injured.
 
The case was officially recorded on Friday night, as confirmed by Monowaruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Naldanga Police Station. He stated that the complaint has been accepted and that an investigation will be conducted to take appropriate legal action.
 
The complaint details that on June 6, 2015, Zahurul Islam returned home. On June 18, 2015, under the instruction of MP Shafiqul Islam Shimul, Tohidur Rahman Liton and others abducted Zahurul from his home and tied him to a tree in a secluded area of Biprabellghoria Union, where they beat him and demanded Tk 5 lakh. Zahurul’s father paid tk 1 lakh to secure his release, but the remaining Tk 4 lakh was not paid. As a result, Zahurul’s father, Baten, was later beaten and injured in the market at Basudebpur.
