Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N) – The Khagrachhari district administration imposed Section 144 in the Sadar upazila on Tuesday after clashes erupted between two groups in the aftermath of a teacher’s lynching.

The order was enforced at 3 pm and will remain in effect until further notice.

Sohel Rana, a 45-year-old teacher at Khagrachhari Government Technical School and College, was killed by a mob of students around 1 pm following allegations of rape against him.

Sujan Chandra Roy, the Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer, reported that he, along with the additional superintendent of police and some journalists, were injured while attempting to calm the angry students.

The violence between the two groups began after news of Sohel's death spread on social media, prompting the imposition of Section 144.

This is not the first incident of mob violence in the area. On September 18, violence erupted in Khagrachhari’s Noapara area after a man named Md Mamun was lynched over theft allegations. The conflict escalated the following day, resulting in the deaths of three individuals in Khagrachhari and one in Rangamati.
