Chandpur, Oct 05 (V7N)— Chandpur district has experienced the second highest rainfall of the year, with 277 mm recorded in the last 24 hours, causing significant waterlogging across the city. Continuous rainfall since Saturday morning has inundated various areas, including the district headquarters, leaving roads and homes submerged.

This year, the district previously recorded 257 mm of rainfall on May 27, making the recent deluge the highest rainfall since then.

The incessant downpour has flooded most roads, especially in areas such as Nazir Para, Mission Road Ashram area, Professor Para, Momin Para, Guakhola, Chitralekha Mor, Palpara, Alim Para, Adalat Para, Rahmatpur residential area, Gazi Road, and Madrasa Road. Residents of these neighbourhoods are struggling as water entered their homes, causing widespread disruption.

Redwan Islam, an autorickshaw driver from Mission Road, shared that he started working at 6 a.m., but due to the rain, there were very few people on the streets. "People are not coming out of their homes, and the number of vehicles on the road is very low," he noted.

Mamunur Rashid, a resident of Nazir Para, reported that knee-deep water had accumulated on the ground floor of his house since last night, making it difficult for residents to navigate. Similarly, Mazharul Islam of Palpara described the rainfall as particularly intense, even compared to the continuous rain earlier this year, leading to flooding in his home.

Land seller Bikash, stationed in the city's Swearing area, mentioned that despite arriving at 6 a.m. to continue selling land, no customers had arrived by 10 a.m. due to the heavy rain. "We depend on land sales for our livelihood, so I had no choice but to come out, even in this weather," he explained.

The torrential rain started on Friday evening, with thunder and intermittent downpours continuing through the night. Traffic on the city roads reduced drastically, and many businesses closed early as a result.

Chandpur Meteorological Office High Observer, Md. Shoaib, confirmed the rainfall figures. He stated that 250 mm of rain was recorded between 9 a.m. and 6 a.m. on October 4, with an additional 27 mm between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., bringing the total to 277 mm in 24 hours. This is the second highest recorded rainfall for the district this year, following the 257 mm recorded on May 27.
