Chattogram, Oct 14 (V7N)- A human chain and memorandum were submitted at the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) office, demanding that a flyover in the city be named after Shaheed Wasim Akram, a distinguished student leader of Chattogram College who was martyred during the anti-discrimination student movement. The event, organized by the “Amra Chattogrambashi” group, took place today (October 14, 2024) at 11:00 AM near Kotwali Mor, Chattogram, where a memorandum was handed over to the CDA chairman.

The event was presided over by the convenor of “Amra Chattogrambashi,” S.K. Khoda Toton. Lion Mujibur Rahman, founder and chairman of Cox's Bazar International University, attended as the chief guest, while Chattogram University Proctor Tanvir Haidar Arif delivered the keynote speech.

In his speech, Lion Mujibur Rahman stated, "Wasim Akram was the first martyr of the anti-discrimination student movement in Chattogram College. Naming a flyover after him is a heartfelt demand of the people of Chattogram. His revolutionary legacy will be remembered by future generations."

Keynote speaker Tanvir Haidar Arif emphasized, "The flyover at Lalkhan Bazar should be named after Shaheed Wasim Akram. We will not let his sacrifice go in vain, and we aim to inscribe his history on every wall in Chattogram."

Special guest Sheikh Mohiuddin added, "After a prolonged movement and the uprising of students and the public, the authoritarian Hasina government was overthrown. We strongly demand that the Lalkhan Bazar flyover be named after Shaheed Wasim Akram."

In his concluding remarks, S.K. Khoda Toton stated, "Wasim Akram sacrificed his life in the struggle against the autocratic government. His name will remain inscribed in history as long as democracy endures. We firmly demand the naming of the Lalkhan Bazar flyover in his honor."

The event was moderated by A.B. Ziauddin Hossain, member secretary of “Amra Chattogrambashi” and bureau chief of Voice7news.tv, along with Arifur Rahman Mithu. Other notable leaders present included Tofazzal Hossain, Akhtar Khan, S.M. Azad, Advocate Abdul Aziz, Lion Riaz, Jewel, Hisam Dulal, Kalam, Liton, Malek, Mizan, Shakil, Russell, Omar Faruq, and Biplob.
