The event, held on Wednesday (January 15) at the Zilla Parishad Auditorium, was jointly organized by the Global Youth Harmony Initiative and the District Policy Forum. Members from 41 blood donor organizations across the district participated, with organizers assuring that such initiatives will continue. Patients and their families expressed relief and happiness at receiving blood donations without any financial burden or difficulty.

Labani Begum, the mother of 9-year-old thalassemia patient Seema, shared her struggles, stating how challenging it is to arrange blood every month. She expressed her gratitude for the voluntary blood donation, saying it brought her immense relief. Nasima Begum, another parent, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the difficulty of sourcing blood for thalassemia patients and appreciating the support from the organizers. Sabbir Hossain, a regular blood donor from Sharankhola, expressed his satisfaction in contributing to such a meaningful cause.

Abubakar Siddique, General Secretary of Alo Path, a blood donor organization, reported that over 200 donors from 41 organizations participated. With assistance from the Bagerhat District Hospital team, more than 50 thalassemia patients received blood that day, while the remaining supply was stored at the hospital for future needs. Babul Sardar, President of the District Policy Forum, emphasized the importance of expanding such initiatives nationwide to ensure no patient suffers due to blood shortages.

Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman praised the initiative, explaining that thalassemia patients need regular blood transfusions every two to four weeks to manage their condition. He stressed the importance of avoiding consanguineous marriages to prevent the disease and highlighted that regular treatment can improve patients' health. Additionally, blankets were distributed to thalassemia patients to provide warmth during winter, with several dignitaries, including hospital and press club officials, present at the event.
