Pabna, Jan 19, (V7N) - A human chain protest was held in Pabna to condemn the terrorist attack on indigenous students and the general public who were participating in a peaceful demonstration in Dhaka. The protest was organized to demand justice for the victims and bring attention to the demands of the indigenous community.
The protest took place on Saturday, at 12:30 PM, in front of the Pabna Press Club. The event, which lasted for an hour, was organized by the National Indigenous Council. Among those who addressed the protest were Ashik Chandra Baniars, President of the National Indigenous Council of Pabna District, Chandi Kumar Bagdi, General Secretary, Apurba Singh, Convener of the Indigenous Students’ Council of Pabna District, and former President Hiten Toppa.
During the protest, the speakers strongly condemned the violence against the indigenous students and demanded immediate action against the perpetrators. The speakers also brought attention to the longstanding issues faced by indigenous people, particularly their need for constitutional recognition. They emphasized that indigenous communities have been part of the nation’s struggle for independence and continue to play a crucial role in the country’s development.
The speakers further stated that the attack on the indigenous students was an attempt to suppress their voices and their peaceful protests. They demanded that those responsible for the violence be brought to justice and that the government take immediate steps to ensure the safety and rights of the indigenous people.
One of the key demands raised was the constitutional recognition of indigenous people, as they believe this would give them legal protection and address many of the challenges they face. The speakers also emphasized the need for further support and inclusion of the indigenous community in national development efforts.
