Bagerhat, Feb 10 (V7N) – In a series of coordinated operations under 'Operation Devil Hunt,' law enforcement agencies have arrested a father-son duo and three Awami League leaders in Satkhira and Bagerhat districts.

Father and Son Arrested for Aiding Sundarbans Robbers

In Satkhira, Abdul Hakim Gazi (68) and his son Md. Hafizur Rahman Gazi (25) were arrested from the Chakbara Bazar area of Shyamnagar during a joint operation conducted on Sunday night. Following their arrest, authorities recovered 1 Eknala pipe gun and 16 sharp weapons based on confessions made by the accused.

The two are allegedly involved in aiding robbers operating in the Sundarbans. They were handed over to Shyamnagar Police Station on Monday afternoon, along with the confiscated weapons.

"These arrests are part of our continued efforts to dismantle networks that support criminal activities in the Sundarbans region," said Lt. Commander Tarek Ahmed, Operations Officer of the Coast Guard West Zone Headquarters (Mongla).

Awami League Leaders Arrested for Terrorism and Extortion in Bagerhat

In a separate operation, police arrested three Awami League leaders from the Chandpai area of Chandpai Union in Bagerhat on Sunday night. The arrested individuals are:

  • Dulal Fakir (40)
  • Helal Fakir (30)
  • Amjad Morol (35)

They are accused of land encroachment, terrorism, and extortion in the area. The suspects were sent to jail following their appearance in the Bagerhat court on Monday afternoon.

"These individuals were causing unrest in the community through extortion and other criminal activities. Their arrest is a significant step towards restoring peace in the region," said Md. Anisur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Mongla Police Station.

Ongoing Crackdown to Restore Law and Order

These arrests are part of the broader 'Operation Devil Hunt,' launched on February 8 to combat rising criminal activities and restore law and order across Bangladesh. The operation has resulted in the arrest of over 1,300 individuals nationwide within the first few days.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to continuing the crackdown until all criminal networks and terrorist organizations are dismantled.
