Rajshahi, Apr 08 (V7N)– A vice president of the Rajshahi District Chhatra League, Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal Himel, who is reportedly banned from speaking on the issue, has been accused of attempting to seize land belonging to a couple in the Durgapur Upazila of Rajshahi.

According to the victims, Rezaul Karim and Jolly, the incident occurred on Monday night along Mohila College Road in Durgapur Upazila. They allege that the Chhatra League leader and his associates tried to occupy 7 percent of their land by demolishing a brick boundary wall. The couple has filed a written complaint with the local police station regarding the alleged attempted land grab.

"It is learnt that on Monday (April 7) night, a Chhatra League leader tried to occupy 7 percent of a couple's land by breaking the brick boundary wall along Mohila College Road in Durgapur Upazila of Rajshahi. The victims have also filed a written complaint with the police station regarding the matter," a police source confirmed.

The accused Chhatra League leader has been identified as Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal Himel, who holds the position of vice president in the Rajshahi District Chhatra League.

"The name of that Chhatra League leader is Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal Himel. He is the vice-president of Rajshahi District Chhatra League," the report stated.

Victims Rezaul Karim and Jolly recounted that they had purchased 7 acres of land in 2018 based on original documents. They claim that after failing to purchase the land, the Chhatra League leader has been harassing them in various ways, culminating in the alleged attempted seizure on Monday night.

"The victims, Rezaul Karim and Jolly, said they met Masud Rana in the area in 2018. He purchased 7 acres of land from a person named A. on the basis of original documents. After failing to purchase the land, the Chhatra League leader has been harassing him in various ways. Monday Last night Chhatra League leader Himel and his people tried to seize their land and threatened them in various ways," the victims alleged.

The couple further stated that Himel and his associates attacked their property in the middle of the night, breaking down the brick wall and boundary wall in a failed attempt to take possession of their land. They also alleged that Himel was involved in various illicit activities during the previous government's tenure, creating an atmosphere of fear that prevented locals from speaking out against him. The victims claim to have received death threats in connection with this land dispute.

"The victims, Rezaul Karim and Jolly, also said that Himel and his associates attacked them in the dead of night and broke the brick wall and boundary wall in an unsuccessful attempt to seize their 7th century land. Chhatra League leader Himel was accused of being involved in various misdeeds in the area during the previous government, and no one dared to speak out for fear of them. They have been threatened with death over the matter," the victims reported.

Local residents corroborated these accounts, stating that Mostafa Kamal Himel, a known supporter of former Awami League MP Mansur Rahman from the Rajshahi-5 constituency, has been attempting to seize the couple's land for an extended period, allegedly leveraging the former MP's influence. They reported that previous seizure attempts led to attacks and vandalism by his followers, with no one daring to protest at the time. Following the change in government on August 5th, the victims and locals reportedly filed verbal complaints against him at the police station seeking redress for multiple alleged wrongdoings.

"Locals said that Chhatra League leader Mostafa Kamal Himel, a supporter of former AL MP Mansur Rahman from Rajshahi-5 constituency, has been trying to seize the land of Rezaul Karim and Jolly couple for a long time using the MP's influence. When the seizure attempt failed, his followers attacked and vandalized the area, and no one dared to protest. After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, the victims and locals filed verbal complaints against him at the police station seeking redress for multiple misdeeds," local sources indicated.

Despite attempts to reach him for comment, Chhatra League leader Mustafa Kamal Himel reportedly refused to provide a statement. His father, Munsur Rahman, also declined to comment on the allegations.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Durgapur Police Station, Durul Huda, confirmed that a complaint has been received and assured that an investigation will be conducted, with action to be taken against the accused if the allegations are found to be true.

"Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Durul Huda said, 'We have received the complaint. If the truth is found after investigation, action will be taken against the accused,'" OC Durul Huda stated.
