Rajshahi, Apr 10 (V7N) -  An allegation of fraud has surfaced against a furniture company named 'Anik Steel Furniture' located in the Kadirganj area of Rajshahi. Mr. Mumit Hasan (Bright), a local resident, has accused the company of deceptive practices after purchasing a large-sized Malaysian process wooden dressing table for Tk 9,700 on January 10, 2021.

According to Mr. Hasan, the cash memo issued at the time of purchase included a 10-year guarantee and promised free home service. However, on January 16, 2025, the dressing table became infested with insects. Despite multiple attempts to contact Anik Steel Furniture, Mr. Hasan stated that the store employees initially delayed a resolution, citing the owner's absence.

Subsequently, when Mr. Hasan managed to speak with the owner, Mr. Md. Aslam, and his son, Mr. Anik, he was allegedly told that the guarantee mentioned during the sale was merely a sales tactic and not a genuine commitment. To seemingly address the immediate issue, the owner sent a van driver on February 23, 2025, to collect the infested dressing table from Mr. Hasan's residence in the suburbs.

Since then, Mr. Hasan claims that Mr. Md. Aslam has been unresponsive to his calls and has failed to return the furniture. Attempts to locate the owner at the store have also been unsuccessful, with employees stating that he rarely visits the premises.

Frustrated by this situation, Mr. Mumit Hasan filed a written complaint with the Rajshahi Department of Consumer Rights Protection on April 8, 2025. The complaint was submitted through the office assistant, Mr. Hosne Ara. Mr. Hasan later spoke with Mr. Fazle Elahi, the Assistant Director (Metro) of the Rajshahi Divisional Department of Consumer Rights Protection, who reportedly acknowledged the complaint and assured that a decision would be taken soon following a notice.

Expressing his disappointment, victim Mumit Hasan said, "I bought guaranteed furniture from this company trusting it. Now they have turned their backs. I want the administration to take action against this fraud and ensure that the common people are not cheated like this."

Local residents have echoed Mr. Hasan's concerns, urging consumers to exercise caution and calling for swift intervention from the concerned authorities to address the alleged fraudulent practices of Anik Steel Furniture.
