NETROKONA, May 23 (V7N) – A man identified as Shafiqul Islam Shafu (45) was reportedly stabbed to death in a clash between two factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the Abbas Nagar area of Bakaljora Union, Durgapur Upazila, Netrokona district, near the India-Bangladesh border.

Local UP member Taher Uddin stated that the attack on Shafu occurred on Thursday, May 22, between 7:30 PM and 8:00 PM. While social media reports initially suggested gunshots, Taher Uddin, from Ward No. 8, denied hearing any gunfire as of 11 PM on Thursday.

Yusuf Talukder Sagar, Chairman of Bakaljora Union, confirmed that Shafiq had a single injury on his stomach, below the navel.

Local residents indicated that the attack on Shafiq's house stemmed from a dispute over posters of former Durgapur BNP president Hamidur Rahman Rashed Professor. Relatives of the deceased allege that miscreants attacked his home, shooting and stabbing him to death. They also reported initial incidents of house vandalization, looting, and several individuals sustaining serious injuries.

Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mahmudul Hasan, speaking around 11:45 PM, confirmed that Shafiq was found with a two-inch injury below his navel on his lower abdomen. Regarding the social media reports of shootings, he stated, "I just came here but I did not hear about the shootings."
