RAJSHAHI, JUNE 04 (V7N) – With Eid al-Adha set for June 7, refrigerator showrooms in Durgapur markets across Rajshahi are experiencing a surge in activity, becoming crowded with eager buyers. Shop owners are actively promoting refrigerators with various discounts and installment options to cater to the festive demand. Refrigerators are essential for preserving foodstuffs and maintaining the quality of sensitive products like medicines.

A market survey over the past week indicates that electronics markets in various areas of Durgapur Upazila, including Sadar, Alipur, Amgachi, and Kanpara, are witnessing a lively trade in refrigerators in anticipation of Eid. However, several businessmen noted that overall refrigerator sales this year are lower compared to last year.

Nonetheless, electronics showrooms throughout Durgapur Upazila are seeing a consistent flow of customers. To attract buyers, various refrigerator companies, both domestic and foreign, have introduced diverse colors and designs. Domestic manufacturers are currently dominating the refrigerator market, having achieved enviable success and market share due to supportive government policies and budgetary incentives.

In Durgapur, local brands such as Jamuna, Walton, Marcel, Gault Star, MyOne, Vision, and Vigo are particularly popular due to their more affordable pricing. Meanwhile, foreign brands like Samsung, LG, Singer, Sharp, and Kelvinator also continue to attract buyers. Ultimately, consumers are purchasing refrigerators according to their individual capacity and preferences.

Grave Ali from Baharampur village, who came to Durgapur market to buy a refrigerator, stated that he purchased a 252-liter Vision Banter Glass Door fridge for Tk 42,500 specifically to store sacrificial meat for Eid.

Abdul Momin from Raipara village, also a refrigerator shopper, commented that various brands of refrigerators are available in the market at affordable prices. He bought a 12-sept refrigerator for the purpose of storing sacrificial meat for Eid al-Adha.

Shamim Firoz, owner of S.M. Firoz Electronics at the Upazila Police Station crossroads, reported that while refrigerator sales were slow for the past few months, they have picked up significantly over the last 10 days leading up to Eid al-Adha. However, he also observed that overall sales are considerably lower compared to last year. He mentioned that local brands like Jamuna, Walton, Marcel, and MyOne are more affordable, making them accessible to buyers.

Mubarak Hossain, manager of Icon Trade International Electronics Showroom on the Municipal Bypass road, stated that they are selling refrigerators both in cash and with a one-year easy installment plan. He noted that despite a slight increase in price for each refrigerator this year, sales have been slower, though a decent amount of shopping is still occurring.

Zahid, owner of Zahid Electronics in Singha market, said that sales have started to accumulate over the past week, but refrigerator sales this year are not as robust as last year.

Mamun, owner of Mamun Electronics in Kanpara market, expressed his concern, stating that he hasn't seen as many refrigerator buyers this year compared to last year. Despite this, he claimed that his business is still doing well. He also added that many buyers, perhaps due to lack of understanding, are heading towards the city markets. He believes that if buyers were a little more aware, their business would improve.

With Eid al-Adha fast approaching on June 7, refrigerator showrooms in Durgapur, Rajshahi, are experiencing a surge in demand, with shoppers actively seeking out refrigerators to preserve foodstuffs. Shop owners are leveraging various discounts and installment plans to attract buyers.
