Ukhiya, July 13 (V7N) — The river that once offered livelihood to many in Ukhiya has turned into a symbol of heartbreak for one family. After three agonizing days of search and uncertainty, the lifeless body of 21-year-old Saiful Islam was pulled from the Sangu River, bringing a tragic end to a young life and plunging a rural community into mourning.
 
According to family sources, Saiful was last seen around noon on Thursday, July 10. The family realized he was missing later that day around 4:00 PM and began searching immediately. Despite continuous efforts by family members, local residents, and the Fire Service, he remained missing for three days.
 
On Saturday, July 12, at approximately 1:30 PM, Saiful’s body was found floating in the Sangu River near the Satkania area, with the assistance of local volunteers and the Fire Service.
 
Local Union Parishad member Kamal Uddin, representing Ward No. 6, confirmed the incident and said he had received the information from the grieving family.
 
Saiful’s elder brother, Jamir Uddin, explained that his brother went to the river to collect driftwood on Thursday afternoon. It is believed that he was swept away by strong currents. Despite extensive search efforts, Saiful could not be located until his body was discovered three days later.
 
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station, Arif Hossain, stated that the police had not yet received any official report regarding the incident at the time of contact.
 
The sudden death has left the local community in shock, and the family is mourning the loss of a young life lost tragically while engaged in a daily survival activity.
