Sylhet, Sept 7 (V7N) – A case has been filed against several stone crusher directors in Companiganj, Sylhet, for allegedly stealing and selling stones seized by authorities from Dhulai Bridge area.

The complaint was lodged at Companiganj Police Station by Sirajul Islam, a ward member of 2 No. Purbo Islampur Union Parishad, who cited that on June 30, 2025, a mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Hasibur Rahman of the Ministry of Fuel and Mineral Resources seized 109,718 cubic feet of stones from the East Bank near Dhulai Bridge under case no. 22/25.

According to the complaint, the seized stones were later stolen and sold by directors of multiple local stone crushers, including Md. Al Amin of Ammazan Stone Crusher, Monirul Islam and Zahidul Islam of Bholaganj Stone Crusher, Zainal Arifin of Bhai Bhai Stone Crusher, Rafiqul Islam and Shafiqul Islam of Allah Dan Stone Crusher, and others. The theft reportedly took place on July 30, 2025, between 10:30 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., using their respective stone crusher operations. Rafiqul Islam of Allah Dan Stone Crusher is identified as the main conspirator.

Local witnesses claim that the syndicate operates under political influence, manipulating local authorities to continue large-scale theft, while ordinary citizens remain powerless. Witnesses include SI (Unarmed) Abdullah Al Mamun, land assistant Gias Uddin, and local residents Amir Uddin, Suleman Mia, and Kalim Ullah.

Companiganj’s newly appointed OC Md. Ratan Sheikh confirmed the case has been filed and stated that investigations are ongoing. Despite the allegations, many of the accused directors remain at large, openly operating their businesses.

Authorities are under pressure to conduct impartial investigations to identify and prosecute the real perpetrators and curb organized stone theft in the region.
