Rangamati, Sept 16 (V7N) – Leaders and activists of the Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh formed a human chain and held a citizens’ rally in front of the Rangamati Municipality office on Tuesday, protesting the unilateral increase in holding tax without improving civic services.

The program was presided over by Nirmal Barua Milon, president of the Rangamati Hill District Committee of the party. Speakers at the rally demanded urgent steps from municipal authorities to address long-standing problems in the town.

Key demands included effective measures against dengue and chikungunya, prevention of theft and robbery, freeing footpaths from illegal occupation, removal of water hyacinths from Kaptai Lake, and solutions to waterlogging and traffic congestion. They also urged an end to harassment in birth registration and citizenship certification, stricter action against mob violence, reduction of essential commodity prices, and expansion of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) family card program.

The speakers further said that raising holding tax without ensuring improved civic amenities imposes an unjust burden on residents, which must be withdrawn immediately.
