Dhaka, Sept 10 (V7N) – Sadiq Qayem of Islami Chatra Shibir has been elected Vice President (VP) of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), securing 14,042 votes, according to final results announced by the Election Commission on Wednesday morning at the university’s Senate Building. His closest rival, Abidul Islam Khan of Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal, received 5,708 votes.
Independent candidate Umama Fatema polled 3,389 votes, while another independent contender, Shamim Hossain, secured 3,884 votes in the VP race.
In the General Secretary (GS) race, Shibir leader S.M. Farhad won with 10,794 votes, defeating Chatra Dal’s Tanvir Bari Hamim, who received 5,283 votes. Protirudh Parishad candidate Meghmallar Basu garnered 4,949 votes.
For the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) position, Shibir’s Muhammad Mohiuddin Khan triumphed with 11,772 votes, while Chatra Dal candidate Tanvir Al Hadi Mayed collected 5,064 votes.
Chief Returning Officer Professor Mohammad Jasim Uddin announced the results.
This year’s DUCSU election featured 471 candidates vying for 28 central union posts. Elections for hall unions were held simultaneously across 18 halls, with 1,035 candidates contesting for 234 positions.
A total of 39,874 students were eligible to vote in the election, including 18,959 female voters from five women’s halls and 20,915 male voters from 13 men’s halls.
