Dhaka, Sept 10 (V7N) – In the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, Islami Chatra Shibir’s panel appears to be heading toward victory, with vice president (VP) candidate Abu Sadiq Qayem and general secretary (GS) candidate S.M. Forhad leading by a wide margin.
 
As of 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, results from 13 halls across six polling centers had been declared, showing Shibir candidates significantly ahead of their rivals.
 
According to the announced figures, Qayem has secured a total of 10,064 votes for VP, while his nearest rival, Bangladesh Chatra Dal’s (BNP’s student wing) candidate Abidul Islam Khan, received 4,350 votes. Independent candidate Umama Fatema followed with 2,260 votes.
 
For the GS post, Shibir’s Forhad obtained 7,323 votes, ahead of Chatra Dal’s Sheikh Tanvir Hamim with 3,881 votes. Abu Bakar Mojumdar from the Bangladesh Democratic Student Union polled 1,289 votes.
 
The results reflect tallies from Curzon Hall Center (covering Amar Ekushey Hall, Fazlul Huq Hall, and Shahidullah Hall), University Laboratory School Center (Shamsunnahar Hall), Physical Education Center (Jagannath Hall, Salimullah Muslim Hall, and Zahurul Haq Hall), TSC Center (Rokeya Hall), Senate Building Center (Bijoy Ekattor Hall, Mohsin Hall, and Sir A.F. Rahman Hall), and Udayan School and College Center (Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall and Poet Jasimuddin Hall).
 
Voting began Tuesday at 8 a.m. and continued until 4 p.m. for both DUCSU and hall union elections. Ballots were then brought together for counting, which began at Curzon Hall around 1:45 a.m.
