Dhaka, Sept 10 (V7N) – Abdul Kader, vice-president candidate of the Anti-Discrimination Student Union, has alleged widespread irregularities in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and hall elections. He claimed that Islami Chatra Shibir-backed candidate Sadiq Kayem engaged in manipulation inside the polling centers, while Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) carried out similar activities outside.
Speaking at a press conference at the TSC premises around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Abdul Kader, former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said the election was not for the students but rather a political calculation between Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP, Chatra Dal, and Shibir. He accused the Election Commission of being incompetent and biased, stating that one faction worked in favor of JCD while another sided with Shibir.
Kader alleged that ballot papers had been pre-marked in several polling booths. He further said that complaints about irregularities were ignored, with officials only offering ballot replacements. According to him, the administration, including the vice-chancellor, proctor, and assistant proctors, were deeply involved in power-sharing politics, undermining student interests.
He particularly criticized the formation of a Senior Management Team (SMT) that, he said, empowered the proctor beyond his academic role, turning him into a central figure in implementing what Kader described as a Jamaat-Shibir agenda. The proctor allegedly oversaw a shadow administration under the guise of hall discipline committees and had exclusive control over the appointment of 170 polling officers.
Kader concluded that despite students’ sincere participation, the election process was compromised due to administrative failure and political influence. He demanded an unconditional apology from the university administration and announced plans to discuss future steps with students.
