Dhaka, Sept 10 (V7N) – In the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) elections, results from five key polling centers show a decisive lead for the Islami Chatra Shibir-backed panel. In the Vice President (VP) race, candidate Sadiq Qayem secured 7,516 votes, while Abidul Islam of the Chatra Dal-backed panel received 3,653 votes. Independent candidate Umama Fatema garnered 2,355 votes, and Shamim Hossain obtained 2,409 votes.

For the General Secretary (GS) position, S.M. Farhad received 5,638 votes, followed by Meghmallar Basu with 3,465 votes, and Tanvir Bari Hamim with 2,753 votes.

The five polling centers reporting these results include Curzon Hall, the Physical Education Center, TSC, the Department of Anthropology, and University Laboratory School and College.

Following the preliminary results, independent VP candidate Umama Fatema announced her boycott of the election. In a Facebook post after 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, she wrote, “Boycott! I reject DUCSU. This is a completely sham election. After August 5, DU administration has once again brought shame to the nation. The administration has been manipulated by Shibir.”

Earlier, Abidul Islam, VP candidate of Chatra Dal, also rejected the initial results. Posting on his Facebook page around 2:30 a.m., he stated, “I predicted this result of planned rigging immediately after noon. Count the numbers as you wish. I reject this orchestrated farce.”

The results and subsequent boycotts have intensified tensions among student groups on campus, raising concerns over the integrity of the election and administrative impartiality.
