Netrakona, Oct 5 (V7N) — A human chain was organized on Sunday in Netrakona to protest the attack on journalist Mohiuddin, General Secretary of the Netrakona district branch of the Bangladesh Press Club.
The protest began at 11:00 a.m. in front of the District Commissioner’s office, organized by the district branch of the Bangladesh Press Club. Participants condemned the incident, alleging that under the pretext of investigating an ACC complaint, journalist Mohiuddin was taken to the site by ADM Sukhomoy Sarkar and Kendua Upazila Officer Md. Imdadul Haque. There, local assailant Mohammad Imdadul Haque, also known as Halim Master, along with his group, allegedly attacked Mohiuddin in the presence of the officials.
The protesters criticized the administration for failing to take action against the attackers and instead filing a case under the Cyber Security Act against journalists Mohiuddin and Tanzila Shah Rubi.
During the protest, signed complaints were submitted to the Honorable Chief Adviser on behalf of the Bangladesh Press Club Netrakona and Mymensingh Division, led by President Shamim Talukdar, demanding withdrawal of the false case and accountability for alleged corruption in the Kendua TR and KABIKHA projects.
Speakers at the event included IT expert and journalist Asaduzzaman Talukdar, Hafiullah Chowdhury Alim, Editor of Netrakona District Press Club, Jalal Chowdhury, Editor of Desh Kanthashwor, journalists Monayem Khan, Gajanvi Biplob, Tariqul Alam, Abul Kashem Abadi, NCP central coordinator Pritam Shohag, Tanzila Shah Rubi, and the victim journalist Mohiuddin Talukdar. The event was presided over by Shamim Talukdar and moderated by journalist and lecturer Suman Ahmed.
The protest highlighted demands for justice, proper investigation, and the protection of journalists’ rights, calling for immediate withdrawal of the baseless charges against the victim.
