Sundarbans, Oct 11 (V7N) – A tiger was observed roaming on the wooden foot trail at the Harbariya Tourist Center in the Sundarbans on Saturday morning, according to forest officials. Forest guards on regular patrol first spotted the tiger and raised alarms, prompting the animal to retreat into the deeper forest.
Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Divisional Forest Officer of the Sundarbans East Forest Division, confirmed the sighting, noting that while tigers have long been known to roam freely in the Harbariya area, this is the first recorded instance of one being seen on the foot trail itself. The area near the Dighir Par of Harbariya has frequently shown tiger activity, highlighting the increasing population of these big cats in the forest.
He added that sightings have become more common across various parts of the forest, reflecting a positive trend in tiger conservation efforts. Visitors and forest personnel are advised to remain cautious while moving along forest trails, as tigers continue to explore areas frequented by humans.
The Sundarbans Forest Department continues to monitor tiger movements to ensure both wildlife protection and visitor safety, emphasizing the importance of coexistence in this UNESCO World Heritage mangrove forest.
