Madaripur, Oct 14 (V7N) – A 31-year-old housewife, Urmi Begum, has accused a local resident, Sohag Sardar, of rape and subsequent brutal physical assault in Ghatokchar area of Madaripur Sadar Upazila. Following the incident, Urmi Begum’s mother, Murshida Begum, filed a case at the local police station naming seven individuals as defendants.

The accused include Sohag Sardar, Jasim Sardar, Jharna Begum, Lamia Akter, Kalam Sardar, Mim Akter, and Sajid Howlader.

According to Urmi Begum, she and her two children moved into Sohag Sardar’s house around two months ago as tenants while her husband was working abroad. She alleges that Sohag Sardar initially raped her and then recorded the incident on video. The video was later used to sexually exploit her repeatedly over an extended period. She claims that fear and shame prevented her from reporting the matter sooner.

The situation escalated when the incident became known in the local community. Urmi Begum alleges that Sohag Sardar and his family members physically assaulted her, including burning her body in sensitive areas with a heated iron rod.

The incident sparked widespread outrage in Ghatokchar, where local residents organized protest marches and human chain demonstrations. Hundreds of men and women participated, demanding the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the assault and rape. Protesters emphasized that without strict legal action, women’s safety in the community cannot be ensured.

Local sources claim that Sohag Sardar, who is financially influential, is attempting to use his wealth to interfere with the police investigation, hindering effective legal action.

Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Adil Hossain stated that the case is under investigation and assured that appropriate legal measures will be taken once evidence is verified.

The incident has created significant discussion and concern throughout Ghatokchar, with community leaders urging authorities to take swift and decisive action to ensure justice and prevent such heinous crimes in the future.
