Dhaka, Oct 10 (V7N) – The 49th (Special) Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) written examination, consisting of multiple-choice questions (MCQs), is being held today, Friday, across designated centers in Dhaka. The exam began at 10 a.m. and will continue until 12 noon, according to the schedule released by the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC).

The BPSC announced that this special BCS exam is being conducted exclusively in Dhaka. Seating arrangements, exam center locations, and detailed guidelines have already been published on the commission’s official website (www.bpsc.gov.bd).

This special BCS examination is being organized to recruit lecturers for government colleges across the country. According to the BPSC, over 312,000 applications were submitted against only 683 vacant posts — resulting in nearly 456 candidates competing for each position.

Due to a longstanding shortage of teachers in the education cadre, the BPSC issued the circular for this special examination on July 21. Online applications opened the following day, July 22, and continued until August 22. Applicants were allowed to complete their payment process until 11:59 p.m. on August 25.

As per the official circular, 653 lecturers will be appointed in government general colleges and 30 in government teachers’ training colleges. The highest number of vacancies is in the Bangla department, with 61 posts, followed by Political Science with 55, English with 50, Economics with 40, Islamic History and Culture with 32, and Philosophy and Chemistry with 30 each, among others.

Education analysts have said the special BCS initiative aims to address the acute teacher shortage in the country’s higher education institutions and ensure that vacant teaching positions are filled promptly to maintain academic quality.
