Bagerhat, Nov 26 (V7N) – Residents of Morrelganj staged a human chain and procession on Tuesday morning, demanding the removal of Acting Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Motlubur Rahman of Morrelganj Police Station. The demonstration, which began around 10:00 a.m. in front of the local press club, saw participation from approximately fifty women under the banner of peaceful citizens. The procession later moved to the upazila parishad premises.

Protesters labeled the OC as a “supporter of the ruling party and corrupt official” and demanded his immediate removal. While demonstrators shouted various slogans, no specific allegations or evidence against the OC were publicly presented. Following the protest, police began investigating the reasons behind the agitation.

District Police Superintendent Md. Asaduzzaman stated that the incident is under investigation, noting that no formal complaint against the OC has been lodged so far. Local sources revealed that on Nov 23, a case was filed at Morrelganj Police Station accusing 98 leaders and activists from various political groups, including the Awami League, former MPs, mayors, Chhatra League, and Jubo League members, of sabotage. Some witnesses were reportedly added to the case without notifying a few BNP leaders, including the local city president.

This incident appears to have triggered public resentment against the OC. Internal debates within the BNP regarding the matter have also been reported, with some sources suggesting that the protest may have been fueled by prior disagreements with certain individuals.
