Cox’s Bazar, Jan 04 (V7N) — The nomination paper scrutiny process for Cox’s Bazar-3 (Sadar, Ramu and Eidgaon) and Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhiya–Teknaf) constituencies concluded on Saturday morning at the office of the Cox’s Bazar District Returning Officer.
In Cox’s Bazar-3 constituency, nomination papers of six candidates were reviewed. The candidature of independent contender Ilias Mia was cancelled due to complications related to voter signatures. The remaining five candidates were declared valid: Lutfur Rahman Kajal of the BNP (Sheaf of Paddy), Shahidul Alam Bahadur of Jamaat-e-Islami, Amirul Islam of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Jagadish Barua Partha of Bangladesh Labour Party, and Nurul Absar of Amjanatar Dal.
In Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency, nomination papers of all five candidates were found valid. They include BNP candidate and district BNP president Shahjahan Chowdhury, Jamaat-e-Islami Cox’s Bazar district Ameer Nur Muhammad Anwari, Islami Andolon candidate Nurul Haque, Liberal Democratic Party candidate Abdullah Al Arfat, and National Democratic Movement (NDM) candidate Saifuddin Khaled.
Returning Officer Md. A. Mannan said a total of 11 candidates submitted nomination papers for Cox’s Bazar-3 and Cox’s Bazar-4 constituencies. After scrutiny, one independent candidate’s nomination was rejected in Cox’s Bazar-3, while the remaining 10 nominations in the two constituencies were declared valid. He added that candidates whose nominations were cancelled may appeal between January 5 and January 11, in accordance with election laws.
Earlier, on Friday afternoon, the scrutiny of nomination papers for candidates contesting Cox’s Bazar-1 and Cox’s Bazar-2 constituencies was completed.
Across Cox’s Bazar’s four parliamentary constituencies, a total of 23 candidates submitted nomination papers. Following the scrutiny process, five nominations were cancelled, while 18 candidates were declared eligible to contest the upcoming national parliamentary election.
